A Spring Welcome to the Triangle

Flowers, news coverage, and a big event on the horizon — it's been a busy season at BNT.

Spring has arrived at Barnett Newman Triangle — and with it, the quiet joy of watching things bloom.

Our volunteers have been out in full force, raking, pruning, and tending to our new flowering plants. From the first daffodils to the unfurling tulips, the Triangle is putting on a little show. It's become the kind of place where you actually want to slow down, look around, and linger for a moment. If you haven't stopped by recently, now is a wonderful time to visit. We love seeing neighbors discover it for the first time — or return after a long winter away.

We Made the News

This spring also brought some lovely news off the Triangle itself: Streetsblog NYC published a feature on the growing community vision for a greener, more welcoming Barnett Newman Triangle. It's the kind of attention that reminds us how much momentum is quietly building around this little space — and how many people care about what it could become.

The Friends of Barnett Newman Triangle are actively exploring ways to transform the Triangle with native plantings and trees to create a beautiful community gathering place. We are delighted that Council Member Christopher Marte and representatives from the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Transportation are now in conversation about possible near-term improvements.

As one of our board members so perfectly put it — we're on our way to going from a triangle of sadness to becoming a "triangle of gladness."

Mark Your Calendar: TD Five Boro Bike Tour — Sunday, May 3rd

One of New York's great springtime celebrations begins right at our corner of Tribeca this Sunday, May 3rd. The TD Five Boro Bike Tour will send thousands of cyclists rolling through the neighborhood at the start of their journey through all five boroughs — and we'll be out at the Triangle cheering them on.

Come join us. Bring the kids, bring your energy, and help make our little Triangle a warm and welcoming landmark at the very start of the route. It's a fun morning and a great way to see the community come together around this space.

Help Us Keep Growing

Everything we do — the plantings, the volunteer hours, the vision for what this Triangle can become — is made possible by people who believe in it. If you'd like to support our work, a donation at any level makes a real difference in our little corner of Tribeca.

With gratitude and green thumbs,

The Friends of Barnett Newman Triangle
