OK, so it's not every day that you need to have your green space treated for rodents, and with estimates of over 3 million rats in the city, odds are you've run across one (hundred) or so while out for a jaunt.
Once the old and damaged shrubbery was removed from the Triangle and the soil was readied for planting, it only took two days for holes to appear. Sunlighting their space, so to speak. Surprisingly, those guys also made their way through the concrete and asphalt.
I am sure we all wish we didn't have a rodent problem and need to manage their populations, but the fact is, we do. The good news is......
The City has another trick up it's sleeve to help. By using carbon monoxide, they fill their burrows and tunnels and the rats extinguish in place. No need to set out dangerous bait & chemicals or the need for another rock shaped trap.
We hope this will be the last of them for awhile, but know we should expect more efforts in the future and will have it on our "to-do" list. Special thanks to the NYC Park department in getting this done for us, as we near planting.
